January Hotel of the Month: Copacabana Palace Hotel

Located right on the world famous Copacabana beach, the Copacabana Palace is one of the most prestigious hotel’s in all of Brazil. It became internationally known when Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers filmed a scene of Flying Down to Rio there, and ever since the hotel has always seen a flood of musicians, actors, business men, and politicians.

The palace has 243 rooms and suites. Each room is finely decorated with period furniture, original works of art, and a touch of elegance in every corner. Each room also features either a beautiful ocean view, gorgeous city view, or wonderful internal view of the prestigious hotel. The rooms are categorized as the following (pictures of each below): Superior City View Apartment, Luxury Ocean Front, Pool Suite, Penthouse Suite.

The palace also features two world class restaurants: The Hotel Cipriani Restaurant and the Pergola Restaurant. The Hotel Cipriani Restaurant is a vision of elegance that features fine Italian cuisine, both contemporary and modern. The Pergola Restaurant has delicious traditional Brazilian food and fresh seafood. There’s also a few bars that can be attended such as the Piano Bar and Bar do Copa.

Also available in the palace hotel is a spa that offers five treatment rooms: massage, fitness center, hair salon, sauna, steam room – plus two relaxation areas. Clients of the spa can also order from the Cipriani restaurant.

Rates at the hotel are very high – starting around $1,600 per night and going up. But, the experience of the hotel and it’s history and location right on the world famous beach may be worth it to some. It certainly contributes to the full Rio experience.
